– Creating anything using natural materials will be expensive, but you feel the difference immediately. And in the long run the purchase serves both nature and the owner of the furniture.
Håkan Urdell is both a furniture designer and development manager at Fogia. Thus, he is one of the few who can design beautiful furniture with detailed knowledge on how to make them comfortable, durable and possible to mass produce.
In the late forties it was easy to choose a career in the city of Gusum, Sweden. Most people went right out of school and into the brass foundry. But fourteen-year-old Håkan Urdell discovered a different path. That road led to Gusum’s newly opened upholstery workshop. Here they made furniture by hand, with hand laced elastics, webbed and padded with horsehair. Håkan became an apprentice and got his first experience in the profession, which he now has had for almost fifty years.
Urdell’s knowledge of upholstery techniques and natural materials was the starting point when Fogia launched the “Dream Bed” a few years ago. Only the best materials are used and the beds are built entirely by hand.
Håkan Urdell has designed dozens of models for Fogia and as development manager, he has also been responsible for Fogia’s focus on ecological furniture. Where it works with both old and new in both technology and materials.
