From the beginning the sofa, Savann, was a solution for a school assignment at Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm, Sweden, where Helena Allard studied between 1995 and 1999. The prototype was built by Fogia, who thought that the piece was so exciting that they wanted to start a series production. Thus Savann became Helena Allard’s first series-produced furniture.
– The idea started when I decided on the theme of “community”. I could just imagine how one could almost be on picnic in one’s own living room. Savann is wide, low and flexible. It can look quite differently, depending on who sits on it. I thought it would be fun to let people make their own decisions and have ideas,” says Helena.
She enjoys working in that way. First, an observation which leads to a thought, leading to a piece of furniture. Or interior designs, or scenography. You see, Helena designs all kinds of things, and has her own interior design company. She is also a trained tailor, which is something she learned before coming to Beckmans College of Design.
