Whitworth Locke

Whitworth Locke is a 160 room hotel with a bar, cafe, lounge and co-working space situated in Manchester. An adaptive reuse project, New York architects Grzywinski+Pons paid specific attention to the building’s heritage status as a part of the city’s industrial past.

While the brickwork of its facade is workmanlike and utilitarian, inside the hotel springs to life; colourful twists of material and textural details energising the spaces.

The firm specified tone on tone grey Bollos in the communal spaces, providing a strong backdrop for the rich green and yellow accents to pop against.

Bollo

A piece that took the design world by storm. Bursting with character and personality, life is just better with a Bollo. Designed with Andreas Engesvik.

Bollo was initiated as a typical Scandinavian lounge chair with slim features and modest use of materials. The final result is a chair driven by comfort, both visually and in use. Bollo has a strong character inspired by its heightened level of comfort, with generously shaped cushions and a bold appearance. The soft volumes reach out to embrace the slim metal base, creating an interesting intersection between the base and its cushions.
